Howlite — The stone for a restless night

For a mind that won't stop turning things over at midnight.

Howlite is a white mineral webbed with fine grey veining, and it's genuinely porous — porous enough that it readily absorbs dye, which is why the vast majority of turquoise-coloured beads sold in jewellery are actually dyed howlite rather than turquoise itself. It was first described in 1868 by Henry How, the Canadian chemist it's named after, who found it in a Nova Scotia gypsum quarry.

In its natural, undyed state, its soft white-and-grey marbling has its own quiet appeal, distinct from anything it's used to imitate.

Howlite is worked with for calming an overactive mind — the stone kept on a nightstand for restless nights rather than in a pocket during the day. It sits with the crown.

Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.

Porous — keep undyed pieces away from prolonged water contact.
