Chalcedony — The quiet family
The parent stone of half a collection.
Chalcedony is quartz with crystals too fine to see — a microcrystalline structure that gives it a waxy sheen rather than a glassy one. Agate, jasper, carnelian, onyx and chrysoprase are all chalcedony under different names. Blue chalcedony, the pale milky variety, is what usually carries the name on its own.
It's named for Chalcedon, an ancient port on the Bosphorus, and it has been worked since the Bronze Age — it cuts cleanly, takes a polish, and doesn't shatter, which made it the seal stone of choice across the ancient world.
Blue chalcedony is worked with for calm speech and gentle communication — the stone people reach for before a difficult conversation. It sits with the throat.
Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.
