Turquoise — The stone of ancient protection
For protection that's been trusted across more cultures than almost any other stone.
Turquoise is a copper aluminium phosphate, and it's among the oldest gemstones worked by humans — Egyptian jewellery set with turquoise dates back over five thousand years, and it holds equally deep significance in Persian and Native American traditions, worn historically as protection for travellers and warriors alike. Persian turquoise, an intense sky blue with minimal veining, has long been considered the finest in the world; Arizona's Sleeping Beauty mine became famous more recently for a similarly clean colour.
It's genuinely porous, which is why most turquoise on the market today is stabilised with a clear resin to protect its colour and structure from oils, water and everyday wear.
Turquoise is worked with for protection and honest communication — a stone with an unusually consistent reputation across entirely unconnected cultures and centuries. It sits with the throat.
Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.
