Obsidian — Volcanic glass
For a hard truth rather than a soft one.
Obsidian isn't a mineral. It's glass — lava that cooled so fast the atoms never had time to arrange into a crystal structure. That's why it breaks in curved shells rather than flat planes, and why a fractured edge can be sharper than a surgical scalpel. Some eye surgeons still use obsidian blades.
Every culture that had a volcano used it. Aztec sacrificial knives, Neolithic arrowheads, and Dr John Dee's scrying mirror in the British Museum are all obsidian.
Obsidian is worked with for protection and for facing what you'd rather not — it's the stone with the reputation for showing you things plainly. It sits with the root. It's not a gentle crystal, and people who work with it usually say so.
Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.
