Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the earth's crust, and the parent of dozens of stones people know by other names — amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, agate, jasper. All of them are quartz with something added or changed.

Its structure is precise enough that we build clocks and radios from it: apply pressure and quartz generates a measurable electrical charge. That property, discovered in 1880, is part of why crystal workers have long described it as an amplifier — the science and the tradition point the same direction, even if they mean different things by it.

Quartz is worked with for clarity and for strengthening intention. It works alone and it strengthens whatever it sits beside, which is why it appears in nearly every grid.
