Menilite is a brown-to-grey variety of opal that forms in sedimentary marl rather than the volcanic environments most opal comes from, and it takes its name from Ménilmontant, the Paris neighbourhood where it was first identified. Its texture is duller and more matte than precious opal, without the flashing play-of-colour, and it typically forms in rounded, kidney-shaped nodules rather than veins.

It's earned the nickname the goddess stone in parts of the crystal trade, a name tied more to its association with feminine energy work than to anything in its geological history.

Menilite is worked with for grounding through emotional or physical transition, particularly around fertility and feminine cycles. It sits with the sacral and root.
