Harmony Duo: Celestite + Glass Apophyllite | Medium

Apophyllite grows in glassy pyramids, usually on a bed of green stilbite or grey basalt, and its transparency is unusual even among clear minerals. Hold a good piece to the light and you can see straight through the structure to the crystal behind it.

The name comes from Greek — apo phyllon, "to flake off" — because it splits along its natural layers when heated. That fragility is part of what it is. It formed in slow-cooling volcanic cavities, mostly in the Deccan Traps of India, and it doesn't survive rough handling.

Apophyllite is worked with for spiritual clarity and for connection to higher awareness. It sits with the third eye and crown. Most people keep it in a fixed place rather than carrying it — partly for what it does, partly because it doesn't travel well.

Celestite grows in delicate sky-blue clusters inside geodes, and the colour is so soft it reads almost white in some light. It was named coelestis — heavenly — and it's hard to hold one and not understand why. Most of what's on the market comes from a single region in Madagascar, where the geodes form in sedimentary rock and are split open by hand.

It's strontium sulfate, which is also what puts the red in fireworks — an odd fact for a stone this gentle.

Celestite is worked with for peace, for gentle communication, and for connection to something larger than the immediate. It sits with the throat and crown. Most people keep it in a bedroom or a space set aside for rest rather than carrying it.
