Larvikite is a coarse igneous rock found in exactly one place — around Larvik, Norway — and it's prized for a striking blue schiller effect, a metallic sheen that flashes across its dark grey surface as the light shifts. In the stone trade it's sometimes sold as black moonstone or blue granite, though it's neither true moonstone nor true granite, just a rock with its own distinct optical trick.

That schiller comes from feldspar crystals aligned within the rock in a way that reflects light at a very specific angle — the same underlying phenomenon behind labradorite's flash, produced by a different mineral.

Larvikite is worked with for quiet, grounded strength — steadier and less flashy than labradorite, though closely related in effect. It sits with the root and third eye.
