Larimar is pectolite coloured a soft, oceanic blue by trace copper, and it comes from exactly one place on earth — a single mountainous region near Barahona in the Dominican Republic. It was rediscovered in 1974 by Miguel Méndez, who combined his daughter's name, Larissa, with the Spanish word for sea, mar, to name it — a rare case of a stone's name coming from one specific person's decision rather than tradition or geology.

Its colour ranges from pale sky blue to deeper turquoise, often patterned with white, in a way that genuinely does resemble shallow Caribbean water.

Larimar is worked with for calm communication and emotional ease — a stone strongly associated with letting go of tension in the chest and throat. It sits with the throat and heart.
