Halite is rock salt in crystal form, growing in sharp cubes as salt water evaporates and leaves its mineral behind — the same process, on a geological timescale, that produces the salt on your table. Trace minerals during formation give it colour: pink and orange tones, like the well-known Himalayan salt from Pakistan, come from iron oxide; other deposits form nearly clear or blue-grey.

It's genuinely edible in food-grade form, though the decorative pieces sold as crystals are for display and energy work rather than the kitchen.

Halite is worked with for clearing and purification — a stone associated with washing away what's stagnant, much like salt itself is used in cleansing traditions worldwide. It sits with the sacral and crown.
