Copal — Resin on its way to becoming amber
For something that's still becoming what it will be.
Copal is tree resin on its way to becoming amber, but not there yet — usually a few thousand to a few million years old, rather than amber's tens of millions. It's softer, lighter, and more fragrant than true amber, and it's been burned as ceremonial incense across Mesoamerica for millennia, central to Aztec and Maya ritual practice long before it was ever sold as a crystal.
Because it's still relatively young, copal can sometimes be identified by testing solubility in solvents that true amber resists — one of the few materials in this collection where age is something you can partly verify at home.
Copal is worked with for cleansing and for setting an intention still in motion — a stone associated with beginnings rather than completed transformation. It sits with the solar plexus.
Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.
