The tradition is old, tracing back through Hindu and Buddhist texts written well over two thousand years ago, long before crystal work adopted it as a framework. Clear quartz is quartz at its purest — silicon dioxide with almost nothing else in it. The clearest pieces look like frozen water, and the old Greek name krystallos meant exactly that: they believed it was ice that had frozen so hard it could never melt.
