Amazonite — The stone of plain speech
For saying the true thing, calmly.
Amazonite is a blue-green variety of microcline feldspar, and its name carries a small mystery: it was named for the Amazon River in the 1800s, yet no gem-quality deposit has ever been confirmed there. The name simply stuck, long after the geography stopped making sense. Most of what's sold today comes from Brazil, Madagascar and Russia.
Its colour comes from trace lead and water in the crystal lattice, and the best pieces show fine white feldspar streaking through the green like veins in marble. It's one of the oldest ornamental stones on record — turquoise-green amazonite beads were found in Tutankhamun's tomb.
Amazonite is worked with for honest communication — the stone people carry into a conversation where the truth needs saying without an edge. It sits with the heart and throat, the two centres that have to agree before honest words come out gently.
Sheri chooses every piece by hand, cleanses it, and charges it before it's packed here on the Gold Coast.
